This past April, the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library sponsored an Amateur Photography Contest and invited photographers 18 and older to participate. The contest was part of the Friendsโ ongoing community outreach to raise awareness of the Friendsโ support of Oceanside Public Library and the Libraryโs resources, programs and events.
Contest guidelines asked for photographs taken in Oceanside that represented the photographerโs interpretation of what โcommunityโ and โjoyโ mean to them. Friendsโ President Chris Wilson said, โAs we slowly emerge from the pandemic, the Friends thought it was a perfect time to celebrate Oceansideโs great sense of community and the joy it brings us. All the entries we received showed that theme in meaningful, personal ways.โ
The images were judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. Entries were accepted from May 1 through June 15, and the results are as follows:
