Amtrak Train vs. Pedestrian Collision in Carlsbad

On June 15, 2020, at approximately 1442 hours, deputies from the Sheriff’s North Coastal Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a report of an Amtrak train vs. pedestrian collision. The incident occurred on the railroad tracks near Grand Ave. and Washington St., in the city of Carlsbad. A southbound Amtrak Train was traveling at about 80-90 miles per hour when the engineer observed a white male adult walk onto the railroad tracks. The male stood on the tracks and faced the train while the engineer sounded the warning horn. The male did not move off of the tracks and was struck by the train. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.
