It’s a year away for the General Election of 2022, November 8th, but candidates are beginning the filing/application process around California for both local, state and national elections. To get you to begin to think about these important elections, we will take a look at who is up for election in each of the North County 78 Corridor cities of Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido and who, at the present time, has filed to run for these various local, state and national political offices. Candidates still have many months to file nomination papers, but it is certainly never too early to begin the campaigning process to “get your name out there” and to take positions on various issues as they relate to the North County cities and what the future holds for all of us. You will be surprised at the number of candidates that have begun this process. Also understand that many of these candidates may drop out along the way before the final voting day.
As election day approaches, The North County Daily Star will offer video interviews, a month or so before the election, of each of these candidates who participate, where they will be asked a series of questions, dealing with specific issues either in North County or specifically in each individual city. All of the candidates will be offered the chance to participate in this interview process.
For some of the national elections, June 7, 2022, will be an important day as this is the Primary election date to decide who will campaign against incumbents from various districts. Before taking a look at the local North County Cities Mayor and City Council races and State Senate and Assembly races, we will take a look at the two races for Congress in the two districts in North County, District 49 and District 50, and the contest for U.S. Senator to fill out the term of former Senator Kamala Harris. A reminder, the filing deadlines for many of these national, state and local positions will end in 2022. Additional candidates will appear and some names now listed will drop out.
