I hope this message finds you well and looking forward to a festive holiday season with your loved ones. At the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, we are reaching out to you with a heartfelt appeal for support that can make a significant impact on the museum and all that benefit from the organization.
For decades, the AGSEM has sought to preserve the agricultural history of the region, while also educating the next generation on the mechanics of gas and steam. One very special story comes to mind…
Our chief engineer recently tested and certified a new steam engineer. This young man has been coming to the museum since he was in grade school and became enthralled with engines as well as the mechanics of gas and steam. Our chief engineer was likewise educated by the previous generation of experts. This knowledge and experience are invaluable and in danger of being lost if we do not continue our outreach and work to maintain our facilities.
Besides our engineers, our organization is brimming with people imparting knowledge and skills:
Blacksmiths who create tools and art from raw metal,
Fine clock and watch mechanics and repairs,
Fiber arts specialists who take raw wool and other materials and process it through to fabric and woven goods,
Machinists who can bring vehicles back from the edge of extinction by manufacturing long out of production parts,
Wheelwrights who bend and engineer wood to make wheels and wagons,
Artists who, over the span of decades, have recreated the history of transportation byways in the county,
Agricultural specialists who teach our youth about effective agricultural practices, Building and repairing steam and gas engines,
The list goes on!
Our ability to continue this crucial work relies heavily on the generosity and support of individuals like you. Today, we’re seeking donations to further our mission and expand our reach.
In 2024, we will be expanding and growing our educational reach. Some of the projects on our agenda include:
Partnering with Palomar College to expand Palomar’s adult education offerings,
Partnering with a local 4-H Club to not only work with livestock on site, but to begin growing crops to support other local nonprofit organizations,
Creating an Oral History program to record important histories and stories from our community,
Creating an interactive STEM-based Discovery Zone exhibit for young children.
Your contribution, regardless of size, will directly impact our ability to expand adult education offerings, cultivate crops for local nonprofits, preserve vital oral histories, and create an engaging Discovery Zone for young minds. From fixing roofs to strengthening existing programs, your support enables us to enrich our community and foster vital STEM skills among our youth.
