CHICO, Calif. – After going the distance and throwing a school-record 13 strikeouts in the series finale against No. 17 Colorado School of Mines, Cal State San Marcos baseball’s Garrett Apker was named the CCAA Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 14-20 on Monday.

For the week, Apker threw 11 innings with 15 strikeouts while allowing just two runs, five hits and five walks.

Apker began the week with a short midweek start in CSUSM’s 15-3 win at Concordia University Irvine on Tuesday. He tossed two hitless innings with two strikeouts and two walks against the Eagles. He proceeded to pitch a gem on Saturday with his complete-game, 13-strikeout performance in the Cougars’ 3-2 win over Mines.

Apker currently leads the CCAA in strikeouts with 23 while recording a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 15 innings of action. Opponents are hitting just .173 against him with three runs on nine hits and six walks.

Apker is the fourth CCAA Pitcher of the Week selection in program history and is the first since Mike Lopez in 2019.

The Cougars will return to action on Sunday by hosting La Sierra in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
