SACRAMENTO: Assembly Republican Leader Marie Waldron issued the following statement on both the Governor’s and legislative Democrats’ unwillingness to resume in-person learning:

“For months, Republicans have been calling to reopen schools safely, in accordance with CDC guidance. Yet, the Governor’s confusing and ineffective tier system is keeping schools closed and is causing hardship for parents and, most importantly, is causing irreparable harm to students.

“Legislative Democrats’ delayed plan to reopen schools, SB 86, would only drag out school reopenings and is simply a giveaway to special interests who seem to prefer keeping schools closed. We know it’s possible to get back to in-person learning safely, because we’ve seen it work in other countries, other states and in many of California’s own private schools and charters.

“If the Governor and legislative Democrats sincerely wish to reopen schools, then they should join Republicans in working with schools to comply with CDC guidelines for a quick and safe reopening. Many students have been without in-person learning for nearly a year. It’s time to get kids back into the classroom.”
