Bailey Cockrill Named CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team

AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Bailey Cockrill of the Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team becomes the second-ever College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division II selection and fifth overall in CSUSM program history, it was announced Wednesday. Cockrill took home second team honors and is studying Human Development with a Health Services emphasis in the classroom.

“This is tremendous recognition for Bailey and I am incredibly proud her,” said head coach Bobby Renneisen. “Bailey’s commitment to being a successful student-athlete is due to the tireless work she puts in on a daily basis both academically and athletically. But most importantly, she is a wonderful person and a pleasure to coach.”

The goalkeeper from Bakersfield, Calif. was named to the All-District® team on Nov. 10, and was immediately entered into the running for All-America®. She is a first-time Academic All-America® selection.

She was also named the CCAA’s inaugural Championship Scholar for holding the highest GPA of all the participants in the CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship field this season after the No. 5 seed Cougars upended No. 4 Chico State to advance to the championship site.

Cockrill made 11 starts between the pipes for CSUSM, accumulating 32 saves on 95 shots faced and also recorded five shutouts.

She was named to the 2016-17 CCAA All-Academic team and was selected CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September.

Frederik Jahr of the Cal State San Marcos men’s track & field team became the school’s first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II selection last season.

Three other Cougars were named to the list while CSUSM was competing at the NAIA level. In 2013, Alex Miller from the softball team and golfer Felicia Titus made the list while Evan Myers from men’s soccer team took home the honors in 2014.

The Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® teams were voted upon and selected by the membership of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
