The contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is anticipating work on the routine harbor dredging project to take place from April 22 – May 24. During this period, the County’s Department of Environmental Health will issue a Precautionary Advisory for beach water quality within the sand placement zone. The Precautionary Advisory includes signage at the northern end of Oceanside City Beach and public notifications on their website (sdbeachinfo.com), distribution lists and social media. This is a standard procedure for the County and it does not indicate a beach closure. No action is required unless the County’s weekly sampling results indicate elevated levels of bacteria, which is unexpected from this routine project. Oceanside Lifeguards, Harbor Maintenance and Special Events staff have been informed and will stay in close communication with the County during the dredging period.
