First Friday Art Walk Oceanside will be held in the multi-venue downtown Oceanside locations on Friday, June 1st from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.
“We are especially excited this month to be part of the unveiling of a Before I Die wall in close proximity to the Civic Center Library in downtown Oceanside,” says Susan Brown, president of the Oceanside Friends of the Arts
Before I Die is a global art project that invites communities to reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in public, as documented in the book, Before I Die by Candy Chang. The Oceanside Public Library and the City of Oceanside Arts Commission plans to implement this wall in a project sponsored by the California Center for the Book’s grant program, “Californians: Community Conversations About the Arts.” Panels from the wall will travel to various locations throughout the City, in an effort to get wide-spread public participation in this powerful project. On June 22nd, the panels of the wall will be re-joined at the wall’s first location in downtown Oceanside in a special performance of Before I die poetry featuring spoken-word poet Anthony Blacksher (Ant Black). The final event will touch on pertinent themes that emerge from the Before I Die wall panels in Oceansided
Back by popular demand to Art Walk is Mathew Singer(MathewSingerMagic.com), who will be performing his NeuroMagik Kid’s Show at 5:30pm at Artist Alley. Mathew Singer is a professional, world class Magic Castle Trained Magician, but is also a UCLA neuroscientist.
His “Mind Bending Miracles” combine exceptional magic, mentalism and brain science.
Also new this month, the Boys and Girls Club Oceanside will be debuting artwork in the Pavilion at Artist Alley.
In conjunction with Art Walk, the Oceanside Museum of Art(OMA), located at 704 Pier View Way, will be featuring “Pajama Night” for the kids. Come in PJ’s and cozy up with children’s stories, art projects, classical lullabies by the student-run string ensemble Triton Trio and a delicious hot cocoa bar and a free book. Best-selling author Janell Cannon will do a special reading of the 25th anniversary edition of her book Stellaluna.
