Bicyclist Involved in Traffic Collision after Driver suffers Medical Emergency
CARLSBAD, Calif. – On June 25, at 11:04 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department was called to a traffic collision that occurred in the 3700 block of southbound College Boulevard.
Arriving officers found that a 64-year-old male from Carlsbad was driving a 2011 Lexus sedan southbound on College Boulevard when he suffered a debilitating medical emergency, lost control of his vehicle and struck a bicyclist in the bike lane, prior to colliding with an electrical box.
The Fire Department responded and transported the 64-year-old male driver to an area hospital. The 16-year-old bicyclist was also transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
Southbound College Boulevard at Tamarack Ave (N) has been closed while officers conduct an investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the collision.
