AMANDA RIGBY led a presentation about Scouting in Vista. Good evening Mayor Ritter and Council Members Aguilera, Franklin and Green. Thank you for the opportunity to present an overview of the activities of the Boy Scouts of America in the city of Vista for 2017.

The Boy Scouts of America program is offered to our youth through the Cub Scout program for boys in kindergarten through 5th grade, Boy Scouts for boys ages 11-17, and our co-ed Sea Scouts, Exploring and Venturing programs for boys and girls 14-20.

Cub Scout Collin Carroll of Pack 751 reported on Cub Scouts in Vista: Last year, there were approximately 200 boys in Cub Scouts in 10 different Packs in Vista, with 30 Cubs earning the Arrow of Light award – the highest rank in Cub Scouting.

Myles Harris, Troop 760: reported on Boy Scouts About 250 boys were in Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts, comprising 20 Troops and Varsity Teams in Vista. 27 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout – the highest rank in Scouting – and more than 300 merit badges were earned.

Nicholas PIRA, Eagle Scout Troop 799: reported. 42 young men and women in 8 Crews were in Venturing in 2017 in Vista. Scouts and Venturers collected and donated more than 800 pounds of food across Vista in 2017. 13 different Church and Civic groups sponsored Scouting units in San Marcos, including 9 congregations, along with the Kiwanis, Optimists, Salvation Army, and Boys & Girls Club. Nick Pira of Bitani Chapter will now report on the Order of the Arrow.

The Order of the Arrow is the honor society of the Boy Scouts of America.

Members are elected by their peers and must have earned the rank of First Class, and have at least 15 nights of overnight of camping in the previous two years. Scouts and Venturers in Vista performed more than 1,000 hours of community service – benefiting schools, churches, government agencies and civic groups throughout town. Scouts of all levels accumulated more than 400 nights of camping last year.

AMANDA RIGBY said Scouting is undergoing many exciting changes in 2018. Beginning next month, families will have the option of forming all-girl dens in Cub Scout Packs, and in February of 2019 they will have the option of forming all-girl Troops for older girls as well. Thank you for allowing us to present this overview of Scouting in Vista.
