San Marcos, CA – Kids and their families are invited to the Flapjacks for Backpacks event, presented by
Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos on Saturday, Aug. 6, 7 a.m.-11 a.m., at 1 Positive Place in San Marcos.

Families can prepare for the new school year in a fun-filled, informational, and collaborative space where they can receive new backpacks and school supplies, available for more than 500 kids, free health care services and back-to-school resources.

A hot pancake breakfast will be served up by the San Marcos Fire Department as a fundraiser to support afterschool program scholarships.

“Our hope is to ensure that every student has access to the tools they need to strive for success in the new school year,” said Cathy Baur, President & CEO for the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos. “We are so
grateful to see all of the local businesses and community organizations who have come together to offer a wide range of valuable services and information to families.”

A major collaborating organization for the event is TrueCare™, a North County community health center, who is donating 250 backpacks to the Boys & Girls Club to help kids prepare for going back to school. TrueCare will also be onsite with their state-of-the-art Mobile Wellness Unit to make healthcare accessible to all, providing free healthcare services, activities, and education for the entire family including: dental screenings, oral hygiene cleaning demonstrations for the kids, COVID-19 vaccines for ages 5-17, and health resources and information.

The resource fair is free to all and will feature over 15 community organizations and local businesses in an effort to connect families with free resources and information to prepare for the upcoming school year. Tickets to the pancake breakfast fundraiser are $10 each and all proceeds will benefit afterschool program scholarships at the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos.
