Boys & Girls Club of Vista 3rd Annual Career Day was a Great Success

Vista, CA- On Thursday, June 29th, the Boys & Girls Club of Vista hosted their 3rd annual Career Day during National Boys & Girls Club Week. This event focuses on exposing youth ages 7-18, grades 2nd-12th, to career and higher education opportunities in the Vista and surrounding North County area.

Our teens, Sadie Stein and Marina Pugh, kicked off the event along with Boys & Girls Club of Vista’s President & CEO, Matt Koumaras, and District 5 Supervisor Jim Desmond. Supervisor Desmond talked about his background in the Navy as a pilot and what it’s like to serve as the Fifth District’s Supervisor.

This year’s event had some familiar faces while also introducing lots of new ones, Career Vendors in attendance included: Watkins Wellness, EDCO, Datron Communications, Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, San Diego Sheriff – Vista Patrol, a Middle School Teacher, a Bassist, the Army National Guard, Vista Chamber of Commerce – SOCAL, Vista Firefighters Association (Local 4107), Dr. Bronner’s, US Bank, CSUSM, TrueCare, San Diego Humane Society, Handel’s Ice Cream, My San Diego North County, San Diego Wave Fútbol Club, and Target!

Our Club kids were pumped to meet all 21 vendors this year and ready to ask them questions about what they do, where they work and what they love most about their job. Some vendors brought goodies to giveaway, games to play, photobooths to use, raffles to enter, and a couple event brought special friends to visit like Winston the Bearded Dragon from Agua Hedionda and Jasper, an American Staffordshire Terrier and Canine Ambassador, from the SD Humane Society.

Fiscal sponsors for the evening included: Watkins Wellness, EDCO, Blue Shield Promise Health Plan, and the MAAC Project in support of the Boys & Girls Club of Vista’s Career Launch Program.
