Oceanside, CA (JANUARY 2020) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside is honored to have been awarded a grant from the Elisabeth Wilson Endowment, administered through the Legacy Endowment Community Foundation. Grant funds will go to support R.O.A.D.’s, a unique program that provides opportunities and activities for adults with disabilities to reach their fullest potential.
The R.O.A.D.’s program provides opportunities for adults that have an intellectual or developmental disability, to learn life skills through real life experiences. The goal of the program is to enhance the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities by creating an environment to learn, grow, and be involved within our community. Members participate in educational, social and life skill activities, including financial literacy, classes on self-defense, yoga, Zumba, volunteering at the local Senior Center and library, gardening and much more! Members have taken field trips to local theaters, Bates Nut Farm, Birch Aquarium and the San Diego Zoo. They even put on their own plays, most recently performing in Beauty and the Beast. They have eaten at local restaurants like Swami’s and Buffalo Wild Wings, where they are welcomed as they practice their skills in communicating, ordering, paying and verifying change.

“The $4,500 grant from the Legacy Endowment will allow us to meaningfully enhance the quality of life for 35 people with developmental disabilities,”

said Jodi Diamond, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside. Grant funds will be used to purchase performing arts equipment, Wellness Warriors cooking equipment and exercise equipment.
