Oceanside, CA (April 8, 2024) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside’s unique ROAD’s program, which provides opportunities and activities for adults with disabilities to reach their fullest potential, has been awarded a Foundation for Developmental Disabilities grant. The $14,860 grant will be used to support the ROAD’s Fit & Fun Program.
The daily Fit & Fun program aims to improve the mental and physical health of our R.O.A.D.’s members as they join in a variety of fun, accessible fitness activities. We offer an array of engaging Fit & Fun experiences, including gym workouts, water activities, yoga, hiking, Zumba, tennis, basketball, and dancing. “This program is so critical to the health and well-being of our ROAD’s members, and we see first-hand the positive effect it has on all aspects of their health. We are so grateful for the grant from the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities, which will allow us to expand and enhance this important program.,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
The R.O.A.D.’s program provides opportunities for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities to learn life skills, enhance their quality of life, learn, grow, and be involved with the community. Ensuring access to health-promoting activities is vital for adults with disabilities. Studies show they are three times more susceptible to chronic conditions like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. The Fit & Fun program aims to reduce these risks while fostering an inclusive community where individuals of all abilities thrive together.
