Oceanside, CA (February 2020)-Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received a $10,000 grant from the Girard Foundation to purchase computers and other technological equipment needed to support youth who are attending class virtually at our Club. As school closures continue, the Girard Foundation’s support ensures that low-income youth have access to the best learning tools possible.
When schools closed for in person instruction in March, many low-income youth were left without access to the supports needed to make virtual learning successful: a quiet, focused environment in which to complete classwork, high-speed internet and tech devices. While most youth have access to devices like Chromebooks and iPads, many of these devices are older and not properly equipped to handle the level of virtual classwork our youth need to complete each day. Girard Foundation funds will allow the Club to purchase extra computers, chargers, and heaphones so that no child falls behind.
“We are so incredibly grateful for the Girard Foundation’s support. After spending months struggling through virtual school due to a lack of adequate technology and an abundance of technical issues, the Girard Foundation funding has ensured that our youth are back on the path to academic success,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
