Oceanside, CA (September 2020)-The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received a $6,000 grant from The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank for their Emergency Food Program, which provides curbside pickup of meals every weekday to community youth affected by food insecurity due to the pandemic.
Each day, BGCO Culinary Arts Specialists prepare healthy, homemade, delicious meals specifically crafted to ensure youth receive the nutrition they need to thrive and grow! Each curbside pickup includes a lunch and snack for each child. Youth attending BGCO’s new Back2School camp also receive a daily lunch and snack. Kids and parents alike have noted how much they love BGCO meals. One dedicated mom who picks up almost every week day commented, “All of BGCO’s lunches are healthy and super delicious; I might start taking notes!” Since launching the program on May 4th, we have served over 26,000 meals and snacks.
“We are deeply grateful for The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s support. It will allow us to fill a critical community need. It is so important that we continue to provide healthy meals to youth, so that no child goes to bed hungry. This grant will ensure that, as school closures continue, youth receive the nourishment they need to concentrate and learn while attending class virtually” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
