Oceanside, CA (May 2024) – Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) is excited to invite the residents of Oceanside to their Community BBQ and Open House on Saturday, June 1st, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The BBQ marks the end of BGCO’s Achievement Week, celebrating the success of its members over the last school year. This year will also mark the grand unveiling of their new and innovative BGC food truck, “The Lunch Box.”

The Lunch Box is a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide free, healthy, homemade meals to youth facing food insecurity in North County. Additionally, The Lunch Box will collaborate with their Teen Workforce Development Program. Teen participants will have the opportunity to earn their food handler’s license, participate in paid internships, and gain valuable real-world culinary experience. “We are thrilled to see this project come to life. It has been a collaborative effort and has only been made possible through the tremendous support of the Office of the District Attorney, County of San Diego, the City of Oceanside, the Parker Foundation, First Citizens Bank, and Buffalo Wild Wings Foundation. Because of their commitment to the program, we can address food insecurity while investing in the future of young people by providing them with workforce readiness and on-the-job experiences,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside.”

The Community BBQ will be held at BGCO’s main clubhouse, Townsite, located at 401 Country Club Lane in Oceanside. This free event is open to all BGCO families and Oceanside community members. Attendees can look forward to raffles, games, delicious food, and the ribbon cutting for The Lunch Box!

Along with the food truck ribbon cutting, the event will feature tables from MiraCosta College, Buffalo Wild Wings, Grand Canyon University, and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Care Plan. BGCO is excited to celebrate the community partnerships that help make a difference in the lives of the youth in our community.
