SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Junior Jonathan Burton of men’s track & field and senior Jaime Jacob of women’s golf have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for March 2020.
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Burton posted an NCAA Provisional time of 53.27 while finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge. His time ranked third in the nation when the season abruptly ended and was a half-second off his personal best. He went on to take sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12. This is Burton’s first Student-Athlete of the Month honor.
No stranger to being named a Student-Athlete of the Month, Jacob earns the honor for the eighth time in her four-year career as a Cougar. Jacob began the month recording her 13th career tournament victory after claiming individual medalist honors at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on March 9. She then collected her fifth California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golfer of the Week honor for the 2019-20 season and the 12th of her career. When the season ended, Jacob was ranked No. 5 in Division II. On March 27, Jacob was selected to represent the United States in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup as the lone NCAA Division II golfer among 11 other Division I golfers.
