CHICO, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos placed a conference-high 47 student-athletes on the 2019 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Spring All-Academic team while placing four on the 2018-19 Winter All-Academic team, the league announced on Wednesday.
In order to earn CCAA All-Academic team honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore athletic standing or higher and own a 3.3 cumulative GPA or better while competing in a Conference-sponsored sport that season. The CCAA Spring All-Academic Team consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s track & field, softball and baseball while the Winter All-Academic Team consists of men’s and women’s basketball.
The CSUSM women’s track & field team led the way with 13 Cougars making the spring list. Men’s track & field and softball each had the second-most student-athletes earn a spot on the list with nine apiece.
On the winter list, women’s basketball had three members make the team while men’s basketball had one.
Of the Cougars’ 47 on the spring list, 23 were repeat winners. Domenic Antonacci was CSUSM’s only four-time winner. Arianna Garcia-Swantek, Nate Hale, Jr., Jenna Hernandez, Tyler Luis and Lauren Wyckoff are all three-time honorees.
On the winter list, Stephanie Custodio and Alec Frank were CSUSM’s repeat winners.
League-wide, 350 men and women from across the CCAA’s 13 member institutions were honored for their efforts in the classroom during the spring while a total of 79 were honored fo the winter.
The Cougars had 25 student-athletes named to the 2018 CCAA Fall All-Academic team from men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball.
The CCAA’s seasonal academic awards were created prior to the 2014-15 season. The conference will also select an overall All-Academic team later in the summer.
