Cal State San Marcos Cougars Rack Up CCAA Postseason Honors

Jaime Jacob was named the conference's Golfer of the Year

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s golf team took home a slew of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) postseason honors on Wednesday morning.

Jaime Jacob was named the conference’s Golfer of the Year for the third consecutive season while head coach Greg Hutton was named Coach of the Year for the third time. The foursome of Jacob, Savannah Magallon, Claire Hogle and Breann Horn were each named to the All-CCAA first team.

Jacob posted three tournament wins for the season with a program-record scoring average of 71.38. The defending NCAA Champion shot a season-best 7-under 137 in her final tournament at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on March 9-10. Of her 13 rounds played, Jacob finished with five rounds under 70 and nine rounds of par or better. For her efforts, Jacob was named the CCAA Golfer of the Week six times this season. The Encinitas native was recently selected to represent the United States as the lone Division II student-athlete on the 12-member squad in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup.

Hutton guided the Cougars to five wins in seven tournaments this season ­- tying for the second most in program history. The team also secured a match play win over BYU. CSUSM’s 2019-20 scoring average of 296.92 ranked second in program history while the team’s finish percentage of 96.6% ranked first. The Cougars’ Par 5 scoring of 4.9423 was also the best in history.

Magallon had the second-best scoring average on the team at 75.38. The senior tallied one round under 70 and four rounds of par or better. Her best performance of the season came in the Cougars’ final home tournament as she shot an even-par 144. This is Magallon’s third All-CCAA first team selection.

Hogle posted an average score of 77.15 for the season in 13 rounds. She finished the year with two top-five finishes and three top-10 finishes. The junior had a season-best finish in the Cougars’ last tournament at home by tying for third. This is Hogle’s third All-CCAA first team selection.

Horn earned her second All-CCAA first team honor after posting an average score of 75.77 in 13 rounds. For the season, the sophomore had four top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes. The Lakeside native a season-best finish of third after shooting a 2-over 146 at the DII West Region Preview in October. Horn had one round under 70 and three rounds of par or better.

This is the third consecutive season that CSUSM has placed at least four players on the All-CCAA first team.
