CHICO, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos’ Jordan Vasquez garnered her second CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award, for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6, as she led the Cougars to two more wins.
Vasquez was a dominant force for the Cougars all weekend, allowing CSUSM to stay atop of the conference standings with 11 consecutive wins. Vasquez averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game with a pair of double-doubles, including a 20-point, 12-rebound performance in RV/No. 20 CSUSM’s win over No. 24/16 Cal State East Bay.
Against the Pioneers, Vasquz shot 75% from the field, going 9-for-12 for her 20-point game in just 23 minutes of play. She grabbed 12 boards and recorded two assists in the contest.
Two nights later at Cal State Dominguez Hills, the sophomore forward from Moreno Valley scored 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting and pulled 10 boards for her sixth double-double of the season. Vasquez also dished six assists and made a pair of free throws.
Vasquez was named the CCAA Player of the Week for Nov. 15-21, after scoring 56 points with 26 rebounds in three games.
Vasquez continues to lead the CCAA with a 57.1 field-goal percentage for the season. She’s also top 10 in scoring (8th, 14.1 ppg) and rebounding (6th, 8.1 rpg).
With the two wins, CSUSM (15-2, 13-1 CCAA) improved to 9-0 on the road this season. The Cougars are in The Sports Center for their final homestand, starting a four-game series Thursday against Cal State San Bernardino.
