Women's Soccer

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team (6-5-6, 4-2-4 CCAA) will look to punch its ticket to the CCAA Tournament as it hosts Cal State San Bernardino (7-6-3, 3-4-3 CCAA) in the final game of the regular season on Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

LAST WEEK
The Cougars took draws in both their games this past weekend.
CSUSM and San Francisco State tied 1-1 on Friday before the Cougars and (RV) Sonoma State had a scoreless draw on Sunday.
Taylor Moorehead scored her first goal as a Cougar against the Gators.
The two draws gave CSUSM two more points to raise their total to 16 for the season, putting the Cougars in a tie with Cal Poly Pomona for fifth place in the CCAA standings.
This is the first time the Cougars have tallied three consecutive draws since the 2011 season against Point Loma, Biola and Concordia University Irvine.

REGULAR-SEASON FINALE

The Cougars control their own destiny heading into Thursday’s regular-season finale against Cal State San Bernardino as they can earn a spot in the CCAA Tournament with a victory.
A CSUSM tie and a Cal Poly Humboldt loss would also result in the Cougars clinching a spot in the postseason.
Other scenarios are possible but depend on tiebreakers that will be determined following Thursday’s games.
The Coyotes fell 2-1 at Sonoma State last Friday before taking a 1-1 draw at San Francisco State on Sunday.
In a tie for eighth with 12 points, CSUSB has been eliminated from earning a spot in the CCAA Tournament.
The Coyotes have outscored their opponents 28-17 this season.
Nathaly Losada Lucumi leads CSUSB with six goals and 14 points while Sarah Mahfoud has five goals and 11 points.
CSUSM and CSUSB last met in a non-conference game on Sept. 17 and saw the Coyotes come away with a 1-0 win in San Bernardino.
The Cougars are 4-2-4 in the all-time series against the Coyotes and are 3-0-2 when playing in San Marcos.

2022 CSUSM WOMEN’S SOCCER NOTES

CSUSM will begin its 2022 season with a very young roster as it welcomes 13 incoming freshmen to its roster of 28.
The Cougars return 12 from the 2021 squad, including top-goal scorers Chloe King, Sierra Moore and Hunter Morton and starting keeper Allison Marcure.
Marcure ended the 2021 season with the 25th-best save percentage in Division II at .855 and ranked third in the CCAA.
Graduate student Taylor Moorehead joins CSUSM as a transfer from San Diego State.
In 2021, the Cougars finished the season at .500 with an overall record of 6-6-3.
CSUSM finished 10th in the CCAA standings with a 2-6-3 record.
The Cougars were picked to finish 10th in the 2022 CCAA Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
Starting this season, the NCAA has eliminated overtime periods from men’s and women’s soccer regular-season games. All games tied after 90 minutes will end in a draw.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his ninth year in charge of the women’s program and 17th overall at CSUSM.
Renneisen’s 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams.
As the women’s head coach, Renneisen is 53-49-34 (.515) for his career with the Cougars.
