Cal State San Marcos Men’s Basketball Team Cruised to an 89-57 Victory

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team cruised to an 89-57 victory in its 2019-20 home opener on Tuesday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars led wire-to-wire as they never trailed.
•CSUSM put together its largest run of the game in the first half with 13 consecutive points in the first six minutes of action.
•At halftime, CSUSM went to the locker room with a 47-22 lead after shooting 65.5% from the field while holding SDC to 28.6% (8-of-28).
•Over half of the Cougars’ first-half points came on threes as they finished the period 9-of-14 (64.3%) from beyond the arc.
•Seits was 5-of-5 in the first half with all field goals coming from downtown.
•The Cougars’ lead never dipped below 23 points in the second half.
•CSUSM’s bench scored 33 of the team’s 42 second-half points.
•CSUSM put up its largest lead of the night at 35 points with just over a minute to play after two good free throws by Kyle Scalmanini.

FAST BREAKS •The Cougars improve to 2-1 while the Hawks fall to 0-3 on the season.
• CSUSM ended the game shooting 64.2% (34-of-53) while keeping SDC at bay with 34.6% (18-of-52).
•The Cougars finished the game shooting 63.6% (14-of-22) from three.
•Twenty of CSUSM’s 34 baskets had an assist.
•The Cougars held the advantage in rebounds (36-21), assists (20-12), steals (15-9) and blocked shots (3-2).
