Vista, CA – The City of Vista has partnered with the California Fire Foundation to assist Vista residents when emergencies happen.

The California Fire Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1987 by the California Professional Firefighters Its primary objective is to provide emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and the communities they serve.

One of the Foundation’s programs is Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE), which aims to provide immediate relief and comfort to victims of catastrophic loss due to fires or natural disasters in the City of Vista. Under this program, incident commanders on the scene can offer $250 gift cards to those who have suffered a minimum of 25% damage to their place of residence. The program is designed to aid victims of fires, earthquakes, mudslides/landslides, and floods. It is not intended to replace the critical relief services provided by organizations like the Red Cross but rather to offer an additional helping hand from the fire service during the immediate aftermath of a disaster. One SAVE card may be issued per household. A SAVE card may be issued to homeowners or renters as long as the minimum amount of damage has been incurred. Businesses are not eligible.

“During times of crisis, it’s crucial for communities to come together and support one another. Thanks to the generous funding from the California Fire Foundation, we can extend a helping hand to Vista residents facing the aftermath of fire damage. With these gift cards, we aim to provide financial assistance and a sense of hope and solidarity as our neighbors rebuild their lives. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will overcome any challenge that comes our way,” said Vista Fire Chief Gerard Washington.

Individuals and corporations can contribute to the SAVE program through donations to the California Fire Foundation, either by check or online. Donations should be designated as intended for the SAVE program. Corporate sponsors are also welcome to partner with the Foundation to support the program or underwrite it in their local community.
