Fort Tejon, CA Elizabeth “Liz” Perez is a light of hope in today’s uncertain and unprecedented times. Liz Perez and her campaign Vista Vote Perez for Vista, CA City Council – District 2 took to the road to make her voice heard. On June 30, 2020, she took her first steps of running 215 miles to raise awareness of the social and economic injustices Native Americans face in this country and their communities. She courageously completed this meaningful, 215-mile run on Sunday, July 5, 2020. The goal of her run was to raise consciousness of a forgotten chapter in California Native American history and to create awareness that Natives continue to be an important part of the fabric of this country despite the inequities and social injustices they face every day.

Liz’s run started with a tribal prayer with tribal elders at 4 AM at Fort Tejon, the end point of a painful and treacherous forced march of many Central Valley tribes in the period around 1863. She retraced that 215-mile journey back to Madera, an area recognized as the ancestral home of her North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians tribe.

Liz is calling for all people to invoke change in this country for social inequalities experienced by Native Americans and underrepresented populations by mobilizing for active change. She is inviting all citizens to join her efforts by running, walking, or biking. She is inspiring Native Americans and other underserved populations to run for change, run for government positions and run to serve their communities. Join the experience by posting your workout photos on social media and tag Vista Vote Perez!
