Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) is accepting Letters of Intent (LOI) for its 2020 grant cycle. The Letter of Intent is the first step in a two-step application process, which will facilitate the allocation of funding for Carlsbad-centered projects. The minimum funding range is $10,000 to an excess of $100,000 possibly available. The foundation will evaluate all LOI submissions and qualify those that meet the program and eligibility criteria.
The deadline for submitting the LOI is 5:00 p.m. on December 6, 2019. Non-profit organizations that are moved forward through the LOI process to the next step will be invited to submit a full application proposal by January 9th, 2020. Those organizations invited to submit a full application will submit the completed application by February 6th, 2020.
For the 2020 grant cycle: CCF will be accepting proposals for innovative projects, partnerships and initiatives that will advance the quality of life for Carlsbad residents in a meaningful, measurable and sustainable way.
The primary areas for impact include:
• Health & Human Services
• Arts & Culture
• Environmental Sustainability
• Technological Innovation
“For the 2019 grant cycle, CCF focused on nonprofits that invested in youth in collaboration with celebrating seniors and we awarded four grants totaling $73,000. The non-profit organizations were the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad – Rancho Carlsbad Garden Mentoring Program, Kids for Peace, Inc. – Grandfriends Kindness Project, New Village Arts, Inc., – A Documentary Theatre Program Connecting Teens and Seniors and San Diego Dance Theater – Intergenerational Carlsbad Dances,” says Estela Mitrani, Regional Affiliates Manager of The San Diego Foundation.
Executive Director Trisha Gooch from the San Diego Dance Theater will be a guest speaker at the upcoming CCF mixer event scheduled for December 11th at the home of Pam Valinet. “We were awarded a CCF grant in 2019 for our intergenerational dance program in Carlsbad that connects resident seniors and youth through the arts and honors the community of Carlsbad,” says Gooch. “We currently have a group of 12 children and two groups of seniors meeting weekly to learn the same structured, improvisational scores along with phrases they will do together. They have been rehearsing at the Carlsbad Performing Arts Academy weekly and will give a free culminating performance on December 8th at the Pine Avenue Community Park.”
Another 2019 CCF grant awardee was Kids for Peace for their Grandfriends Kindness Project. “The Grandfriends Kindness Project is a yearlong, intergenerational program that connects our younger and older Carlsbad citizens, offering an uplifting opportunity to work together to create a culture of kindness and connection,” says Megan Jansen, peace pledge program director with Kids for Peace. “It is an extension of the Great Kindness Challenge, which is a school-wide bullying prevention program that provides students access to a checklist of 50 kind acts that the younger students and seniors come together to complete over a course of 10 months.”
