Longtime Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) members Yvonne Murchison Finocchiaro and Scott White were recently named Carlsbad Citizens of the Year for 2018 at the Carlsbad City Hall awards ceremony. The annual award recognizes community members who have dedicated themselves to improving Carlsbad through outstanding service. The Citizen of the Year program is more than 40 years old and honors community members who have given their time and energy toward the civic improvement, beautification and betterment of the City of Carlsbad.
“We are very honored to have two of our CCF members receive this distinguished award from the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce for their long-term philanthropic service to the Carlsbad community and especially for their active participation in CCF,” says Estela Mitrani, Regional Affiliates Manager of The San Diego Foundation.
Finocchiaro has served the Carlsbad community in many roles, most notably as a founding member of CCF in 2007. CCF is a regional affiliate of The San Diego Foundation and has distributed over $900,000 to local Carlsbad area nonprofits since its inception in 2007. She has devoted her time and energy to many other causes as well, including leadership roles with Carlsbad Rotary and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.
White has also been an active member of CCF since moving to Carlsbad in 2012 after retiring from a successful business career in the aerospace industry. He was able to use his corporate financial planning skills when he took over the reins as president of the Carlsbad New Village Arts board with the mission of righting the theatre’s financial ship. Under his leadership New Village Arts reconstituted its board, increased fund-raising activity and implemented financial controls that insured the organizations health.
The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, mission is to celebrate and invest in Carlsbad’s diverse and thriving community through its annual grant making process to local Carlsbad non-profit charitable organizations.
