Carlsbad Council Presses for Answers on Palomar Airport Security

CARLSBAD — A Carlsbad councilman continued pressing for transparency, independent scrutiny and corrective action regarding security issues at McClellan-Palomar Airport on Sept. 11.

Councilman Kevin Shin, who represents District 2, where the airport is located, said a recent Transportation Security Administration (TSA) response to Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) confirmed “several findings” from a March 2025 report. Shin said the TSA identified security weaknesses in access control and preventing unauthorized entry at the San Diego County-owned airport.

However, TSA classified the operational details of the incidents, airport vulnerabilities, inspections and corrective actions under Sensitive Security Information (SSI). While Shin said those vulnerabilities….
