(Carlsbad, CA) – Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall today announced his endorsement of Dr. Melanie Burkholder for State Assembly District 76.

A lifelong North County resident, Matt Hall has served on the Carlsbad City Council since 1994 and has served as mayor since 2010. Mayor Hall is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all Carlsbad residents through his priorities of fiscal conservatism, local control, and public safety.

“I endorse Dr. Melanie Burkholder because she is a strong taxpayer advocate and fiscal conservative that will stand up to the out of control tax-and-spend policies coming from Sacramento,” said Mayor Hall. “We can count on Melanie to do what’s right for our community, which is why I wholeheartedly endorse her race for Assembly.”

The 76th encompasses coastal North County, including Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and the cities of Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, and Vista. The district is currently occupied by liberal Democrat Tasha Boerner Horvath, who won election in 2018. Boerner Horvath is the first Democrat to win this seat since redistricting in 2012. The District’s voter registration is nearly evenly split between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

“I thank Mayor Hall for his endorsement and support. As a resident and business owner in the city of Carlsbad, I applaud Mayor Hall’s focus on stimulating our local economy through business-friendly policies. Once elected to the Assembly, I will work to rein in the rampant government overreach that makes it difficult to own and operate a small business in California,” said Dr. Burkholder.

Dr. Melanie Burkholder is a decorated Secret Service agent, mental health counselor, and proud wife and mother. A Republican, Melanie will take the same fight to Sacramento special interests and ultra-liberal politicians that she took to our nation’s criminals while serving in the Secret Service.
