When Carlsbad Village Music & Village Vibe was deemed “non-essential” and told to close its doors, owner Janine Thomas knew she had to pivot quickly and make some changes. Not wanting her student’s progress to stall out, she decided to implement virtual lessons. 70% of her students are now online with 90% of staff converted to online instructors. So far, 600 online lessons have been taught. They are also working on a prerecorded “Virtual Concert” featuring at-home performances, viewable on their website so students can see their instructors perform and stay connected. Janine said they are currently crafting a plan to integrate virtual lessons into their normal operations going forward as some students may have transportation limitations, some may have medical situations keeping them at home, and some may relocate out of town and want to continue with their preferred instructor. The retail store “The Vibe” is taking instrument orders from people in the community by appointment and offering free curbside and at-home delivery. Talk about adapting to a new situation! CVA has started a list of businesses that are holding virtual appointments, shipping products, offering curbside delivery, and more, safely, during this time. Reach out to businesses in the Village as they would love to help you and are grateful for your support.
