CARLSBAD — The developer of a proposed mixed-use redevelopment project on Roosevelt Street has withdrawn its application after the city raised questions about compliance with tenant protection requirements under the Housing Crisis Act.
The project by Rincon Homes is known as Rincon Roosevelt and is adjacent to Hennessey’s Bar & Tavern in Carlsbad Village. Rincon proposed 33 condominiums, including five affordable units, 3,419 square feet of commercial space, and 42 covered parking spaces in a four-story building. The proposal called for the demolition of an eight-unit residential building and Karlsbad Realty.
A companion project, The Dewhurst, is still moving forward and would demolish Hennessey’s and a vacant office building.
The City Council was supposed to hear the item on Tuesday, but it was pulled from the agenda after the city was notified that Rincon had withdrawn its application.
