A reminder from Sheriff Bill Gore and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department: as we return to normalcy from the COVID-19 pandemic, we should never forget the dangers associated with impaired driving.
This Memorial Day weekend, deputies will be keeping our roadways safe by keeping an eye out for impaired drivers.
Impaired driving doesn’t just refer to alcohol. It also means driving under the influence of prescription drugs or marijuana.
If you are caught driving impaired by one of our deputies, you will go to jail.
“An impaired driving conviction can cost you more than $15,000 in legal and court fees,” said Sheriff Bill
Gore. “If you need to drive this Memorial Day weekend, do the responsible thing and don’t drink and drive.”
If you must drive, observe all traffic laws, including following the speed limit. Driving too fast can put you and other drivers in danger.
The Sheriff’s Department wants to thank the public for observing the state and county’s public health
orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This holiday weekend, avoid large gatherings, wear facial coverings and practice social distancing.
Let’s all do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19 as we get closer to reopening
