The City of Carlsbad helped 15 people experiencing homelessness get into permanent housing in the second quarter of this fiscal year. This brings the total to 31 who have successfully transitioned off the streets since the city’s fiscal year began July 1.

At the Feb. 22 City Council meeting, members of the city’s homeless response team presented results for the second quarter, which includes October through December, 2021. The city also cleaned up 15 homeless encampments, helped 29 people find temporary shelter, and made contact with 269 people experiencing homelessness to provide services and referrals.

In March of 2021, the City Council established a goal of reducing the unsheltered population in Carlsbad by 50%, among those who want help, within five years. Part of the goal includes providing regular updates to ensure progress is being tracked and efforts adjusted as needed.
