Music, laughter and a love for literacy recently filled the City of Carlsbad’s Sculpture Garden. Dozens of children tapped, chimed and drummed their way through the garden’s new percussion play instruments on Wednesday morning.

A librarian from the Cole Library read stories about music before the kids got to make some music of their own.

The Percussion Play project features seven kid-friendly musical sculptures designed for hands-on exploration. The instruments are part of Carlsbad’s ongoing efforts to create welcoming spaces that invite creativity, exploration and play for all ages.
