Today the City of Carlsbad released the agenda for a special meeting of the Carlsbad City Council that will take place tomorrow (Tuesday January 5, 2021), as requested by Council Member Schumacher. The agenda has only one item:

Consider a request from Council Member Schumacher to adopt a resolution(s) under the city’s emergency powers for increased enforcement of the public health orders, including administrative citations and fines. Specifically, (1) Adoption of a resolution adopting an Emergency Order requiring all individuals, businesses, and organizations in Carlsbad to comply with the State and County Public Health Orders; and/or (2) Adoption of a resolution issuing an Emergency Order mandating face coverings in certain high-traffic pedestrian areas of the City of Carlsbad.

What this means in layman’s terms is the that city council will consider fining businesses who have defied the pulic health orders and have stayed open when they should be closed.

The meeting is at 3:00pm and will take place via Zoom. If you have an opinion in either direction on this item that you would like to share, the city does make it easy to participate. To share your opinion by phone at the meeting, you must sign up by 2:00pm tomorrow at this link. You can also email comments on this item, but those comments are not read out loud during the meeting.
