City of Oceanside Message From the Mayor

In good news from State officials, more Oceanside businesses and organizations are reopening their indoor operations, some with capacity restrictions. I joined with other North County Mayors to lobby the state to allow safe re-openings, and I’m pleased to see some movement in these regulations.

See what’s reopening
In its new color-coded four tier framework, called “Blueprint for a Safer Economy,” the state outlined this new system last week, which looks mainly at COVID case rates and positivity rates as the measures. Each county gets assigned a color, according to its COVID-19 rates, and our color determines how businesses in our county can operate during the pandemic. Right now, we’re the only county in Southern California with lowered rates in the “red tier”. I want to stress how important it is that everyone continues their efforts to beat the virus. If we do, we’ll be lower in the orange tier very soon, and indoor business can expand their capacity rates further. Learn more about the Tiers.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES
While things are slowly getting back to some sense of normalcy, we know there are people in our community suffering financial hardships as a result of the pandemic regulations. There are many resources being offered by the City to help: food, emergency rental assistance, and others are providing legal help, mental healthcare services, and more: Community Resources

AB 3088 ON EVICTIONS
Late last night, the California Legislature passed AB 3088, which enacts the COVID-19 Tenant, Homeowner, and Small Landlord Relief and Stabilization Act of 2020. There
are several important parts of the Bill for both landlords and tenants, please review AB 3088 if this situation applies to you.

BUSINESS RESOURCES
Businesses also have resources available to them as they seek to recoup losses and get back up and running. There are grants, loans, and other business supports to help.
Business Resources. I’d like to ask those that are able to please support our local small businesses at every turn.

NEW SCHOOL YEAR
Today is the first day that schools in our County are permitted to reopen, but some are taking it cautiously. OUSD is starting the school year online. Vista Unified, which serves some of our Oceanside residents, is offering a choice or online or in-person. Wishing all of our students, teachers, and administrators a successful school year in these very challenging times.

VIRTUAL COMMUNITY MEETINGS
Although many of our community meetings are taking place online at the moment, there are a couple upcoming presentations I wanted to invite you to participate in:
• There will be a virtual public information session regarding options to help with beach sand replenishment/retention on City beaches on September 15. Details
• There will be a webinar on September 17 to discuss an exciting project to enhance the Loma Alta Slough, to include trails and educational signage. Details

I want to thank everyone for all you’re doing to help your families, neighbors, and community get through these trying days.

Sincerely,
Peter Weiss
