The City has been awarded just over $1.1 million in grant funding for the purchase and development of new park space at the intersection of Avenida De Benito Juarez and Avenida De La Plaza. The park is being funded through the fourth and final round of the Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Grant Program and is one of 112 community park projects in more than 30 counties throughout California selected to expand outdoor opportunities in underserved communities. The grant funds will be used in purchasing .22 acres of unimproved property and developing a small pocket park in a neighborhood with a deficit of park space.
“We’re thrilled to receive the grant,” said Mayor Judy Ritter. “Creating additional recreational opportunities for our residents is a top priority. I expect this park, when built, will encourage a healthier, active lifestyle by offering additional space to gather, play, relax and enjoy.”
The construction will include a new playground, a passive recreation area, and picnic area, with landscaping and irrigation throughout the park. Sidewalk will also be constructed along the park’s roadway-adjacent perimeter.
The City of Vista is one of only five jurisdictions in San Diego County to receive funding and the only city in North County. Other local awardees include Chula Vista, National City, San Diego, and San Diego County. A total of 468 project applications totaling $2.42 billion were submitted.
