The Anaheim Ducks surprised Classical Academy Online student, Lera Doederlein, with the 2019 ‘21st Duck’ award! The Ducks brought Lera onto the ice to gave her a custom jersey and the chance to play drills and rotations with her favorite players. Formally introduced at the opening game at the Honda Center in early October, Lera was selected for her inspiring story of success following a bilateral amputation in both legs.
Previously, Doederlein joined the San Diego Ducks Sled Hockey team and quickly made the jump from the youth squad to the adult team due to her advanced skill. This past July, she was named to the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team.
The 21st Duck is a tradition the organization started in 2015 that creates a spot on the Opening Night roster to honor a fan who “embodies perseverance, character, courage, and inspiration, or is making significant contributions to the local community.”
We are extremely proud of her accomplishments and success!
