On Sunday, September 4th, at about 7:30 PM, Deputies from the Vista Station responded to a commercial burglary in the 1600 block of South Melrose Drive in the City of Vista. After the deputies arrived and began their investigation, they discovered the business had been broken into and two cash registers had been taken. The amount of money inside each register was unknown.

As the deputies continued to investigate, they learned the suspect had fled to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Live Oak Road. Deputies responded to the location and with the help of a K9 and the Sheriff’s Department helicopter unit, ASTREA, they were able to locate the suspect. Deputies contacted Victor Diaz (DOB 09/14/1984) at an apartment inside of the complex and took him into custody without incident.

Inside the apartment the deputies located the two missing cash registers, about $200 in currency, and the clothing worn by Diaz during the burglary. Additionally, the deputies recovered a stolen handgun and ammunition taken in a burglary only weeks prior. As a result of the arrest, Vista Detectives were able to link Diaz to five separate burglaries in the area.

Diaz was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on several felony charges including Burglary, Felon in Possession of a firearm, and Possession of Stolen Property. The investigation is ongoing in order to determine if Diaz is linked to any other burglaries in the North County.
