Community Gets Big Support during COVID-19 from North County Based Clinic

For over a decade, Vista Community Clinic (VCC) has offered supplemental health and wellness support to its patients and community members through food distributions. With the help of Feeding San Diego, Poder Popular, Coastal Roots, and VCC’s own grant funds, the clinic has been able to get nutritious food items on local tables to nourish growing minds and bodies.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, the distribution shifted quickly to an appointment based system that eliminated crowds and supported the practice of social distancing. Since then, the distribution has been offered up to 4 times per week, based on need, and continues to offer bags of fresh and boxed food to those in need. Combining forces with local support groups and non-profits, the clinic has really beefed up its distribution efforts in order to meet current demand. Diapers are also currently available, in a variety of sizes. Parents and guardians of babies and young children can request a box of diapers when they call to schedule their food pick-up as well.

With food insecurity as a rising issue, even pre-COVID, the clinic’s outreach team has worked hard to keep its patients thriving outside of the normal clinician visit. VCC continues to alert its community with weekly posts on social media channels like Facebook and Instagram (@VistaCommunityClinic) of the offering, in hopes that no one is left behind.
