Cookies Con Amore from San Marcos is giving the Love to the COVID-19 Testing team at North County Healthcare Services (NCHS) by donating more than 300 boxes of homemade Italian Cookies to these front-line workers on Thursday, June 25 at 4:30pm. NCHS’s COVID-19 team comes to work every day to ensure they can continue meeting the healthcare needs of the communities we serve. It is the mission of NCHS that is their common ground and unites us all. Some may describe us as healthcare heroes, because each of their team, in their own way, have worked tirelessly to ensure our communities continue getting the critical healthcare they need during this time.
What has been most important has been being able to continue to provide access to healthcare for those persons who are marginalized and resource challenged: those persons at greatest risk to be multi-impacted by this virus.
This team of people have met the challenge of the novel corona virus with creative ways to maintain the goal of providing health care to those who otherwise might not get it. Their objectives were clear: Separate the healthy from the sick, minimize the congregation of people, maintain essential in-person access to health care, and educate the public. These objectives were met in a variety of ways, many of which are here to stay.
Once a readily obtainable medication is on hand to treat the novel coronavirus, or a vaccine becomes available, NCHS can perhaps go back to delivering medical care in many of the more traditional ways. In the meantime, they have developed protocols and processes to address this modern-day pandemic. The lesson here is that these protocols and processes are being streamlined so that they can be quickly implemented, should the need arise again.
Cookies Con Amore was born in San Marcos in 2005 when owners Fernanda and Angelo decided to devote themselves to what they love best: cookies. They were childhood friends from the village of Sant Elia in the south of Italy to grandmothers who baked for love and honor.
Cookies were a mainstay in their homes, always on hand to be enjoyed over conversation and coffee or wine with family and friends.
Their cookies are a true labor of love, the way her grandmother in Italy used to make them, and known to bring tears to the eyes of customers. The company has grown to more than 45 employees, but all orders are still baked with love and in small batches at the company’s 33,000 square foot bakery in San Marcos, California.
