SAN MARCOS, Calif. – In the lead up to the highly anticipated 2018-19 men’s and women’s basketball season, the Cal State San Marcos Department of Athletics is set to host its annual Cougar Madness on Oct. 18 at 8:30 p.m. in The Sports Center.

The free-to-all event will showcase this season’s men’s and women’s rosters and include appearances by Crash the Cougar and the CSUSM cheerleaders and dancers.

“Cougar Madness is always a great event to begin our season,” Men’s Head Coach B.J. Foster said. “It gives the CSUSM students, faculty and staff, as well as the community, the opportunity to meet our new guys.”

Fans can take advantage of free food, posters and a t-shirt giveaway. The Mighty 1090 will also be on hand.

“It’s going to be another great night at Cougar Madness,” said Women’s Head Coach Renee Jimenez. “We are excited to introduce our new squad to the CSUSM community and kick off our season!”

The men’s team welcomes 10 new faces and brings back four returners to tackle the always challenging California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schedule. The Cougars’ 28-game schedule incudes 13 games at The Sports Center and an exhibition at Cal State Northridge. CSUSM will open its home schedule against San Diego Christian on Nov. 13.

“Our expectation for this season is to compete and be prepared for every game,” Foster said. “We want to get the team playing as one and gelling as quickly as possible.”

On the women’s side, the Cougars have 10 new players to go along with five returners. This season’s tough schedule includes 26 games with 14 of those occurring at The Sports Center. After an exhibition at San Diego, CSUSM will open up the season at home on Nov. 9 against Hawaii Pacific, the defending PAC West Champions.

“Our players are focused and eager to get better each day,” Jimenez said. “They have created a new standard in our program and are holding one another accountable every day. They approach each day with passion and purpose and that will lead them to great places, individually and collectively.”

Season ticket packages are available now. The Sports Center courtside seats are $225 and VIP chairback seats are $100 for all home regular-season games and post-season home games. For more information and to reserve your seats today visit: CSUSMCougars.com/tickets.
