SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team (10-0, 6-0 CCAA) broke into the top 10 of the NCAA Division II national rankings for the very first time on Tuesday as the Cougars came in at No 9 in the NABC Top 25 Coaches Poll. CSUSM was also voted No. 11 in the D2SIDA Top 25 National Media Poll.

The Cougars matched their best-ever start in program history on Sunday as they moved to 10-0 with a 70-61 win at Cal State LA. CSUSM last began a season with 10 consecutive wins in its final year of NAIA play in 2014-15.

CSUSM is one of three CCAA teams represented in the top 10 of the NABC Coaches Poll with Chico State coming in at No. 4 and Cal State San Bernardino at No. 6.

The No. 9/11 Cougars will have the opportunity to earn the best-ever start in program history outright as they return to The Sports Center on Thursday to face Humboldt State. Originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m., CSUSM will now face Humboldt State at 5 p.m. due to the cancellation of the women’s game that was supposed to precede it.
