CARSON, Calif. – Before ringing in 2019, the Cal State San Marcos men’s basketball team fell 86-74 to Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on New Year’s Eve at the Torodome.

HOW IT HAPPENED •The Cougars were outscored 37-32 in the first half despite putting up the better field-goal percentage at 37.9 (11-of-29) compared to the Toros’ 32.3 (10-of-31).
•CSUDH went 11-of-14 from the charity stripe in the first 20 minutes.
•Elliott led all scorers with 10 points in the first half.
•The Toros posted their largest lead of the half at 34-24 with 3:42 left in the period.
•CSUDH outscored CSUSM 49-42 in the final 20 minutes.
•The Toros ended the game shooting 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field while the Cougars came in at 36.7 percent (22-of-60).
•Of CSUDH’s 25 made field goals, 16 came from beyond the arc.
•CSUSM’s largest deficit of the game came at 80-60 with 4:27 left in regulation.
•The Toros tallied 61 points off the bench compared to the Cougars’ seven.
•Only 12 of CSUDH’s 86 points came from the paint.
FAST BREAKS •CSUSM falls to 3-10 (0-7 CCAA) while CSUDH improves to 6-4 (4-1 CCAA).
•For Elliott, this was his fourth double-double of the season with a season-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds.
•Soffer was one point off the career-high 22 points he scored last season against CSUDH, but he tallied a new career high with nine rebounds.
•The Cougars committed fewer turnovers at 17 compared to the Toros’ 21.
•CSUSM held the advantage in steals (10-9) and points off turnovers (18-13) while committing fewer personal fouls (33-24).
