Cougars Post Strong Spring 2021 GPA of 3.37

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos Athletics posted high marks once again in the Spring 2021 semester as the Cougars recorded a departmental grade-point average of 3.37.

“I continue to be awe-struck by our student-athlete academic accomplishments,” CSUSM Director of Athletics Jennifer Milo said. “Despite all the challenges that came with this entire 20-21 academic year, our student-athletes were determined to not let these challenges define them. Instead, they showed their resiliency and tenacity to set the bar even higher academically. ”

CSUSM student-athletes broke the department’s semester record for most Mangrum Award honors as 45 recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA. This beat out the previous semester record established in Fall 2020 by four.

Of all student-athletes, 75.9% recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the semester while 54.3% recorded a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Cumulatively, 76.3% of all student-athletes have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 45.3% have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

All 13 of CSUSM’s athletic programs posted team GPAs of 3.0 or higher. Women’s soccer led the way with a GPA of 3.68. Men’s cross country took second with a 3.632 GPA while women’s cross country was third at 3.628. They were followed by women’s golf (3.547), men’s basketball (3.545), women’s basketball (3.489), women’s track & field (3.41), men’s track & field (3.34), baseball (3.37), men’s golf (3.252), volleyball (3.202), softball (3.187) and men’s soccer (3.163).

Baseball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s track & field and men’s basketball each tallied their best semester GPAs ever.
