LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s track & field team tallied two event championships and three medals while the women’s squad saw several earn a spot in the finals for their respective events at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Track & Field Championships on Friday.
TOP PERFORMANCES •Ndoto Strong won the CCAA Championship in the men’s shot put as he put up a mark of 16.65 meters on his final throw to secure the win.
•Vahagn Isayan won the CCAA Championship in the 10,000-meter run with the second-fastest time in program history at 30:09.51.
•Joshua Litwiller earned silver in the 10,000-meter run with the third-fastest time in school history at 30:12.48.
•Thomas Fadden broke the school hammer throw record with a mark of 52.43 meters – 1.45 meter further than the previous mark (50.98) held by teammate Luigi Gonzalez. Fadden finished the event in fifth.
•Olivia Krog took fourth in the women’s javelin throw with a mark of 37.33 meters and gave the women’s team five points.
•Jenna Hernandez put up a personal best in the women’s heptathlon with a ninth-place score of 3,750 – 138 points more than her previous best.
•Nic Samuels took sixth in the men’s long jump final with a mark of 6.80 meters – the fifth-best mark in program history.
•Marina McDonough tallied the best prelim time in the women’s 1500 at 4:41.92 and qualified for tomorrow’s final.
•Shea Vavra qualified for tomorrow’s final in the men’s 1500 with the eighth-fastest time at 4:00.07.
•Sierra Julian qualified for Saturday’s 400-meter final with the seventh-fastest prelim time at 57.72. Her time was also the 10th-fastest in program history.
•Julian later qualified for the 200-meter final with the ninth-fastest prelim time at 25.34 – eighth-fastest in program history.
•Micaela Ecija put up the fifth-best discus throw mark in program history at 37.66 meters while finishing the event in 17th.
•Clarissa Garcia’s time of 2:17.34 was the fifth fastest in the 800-meter prelim and put her through to Saturday’s final.
•Isaiah Thomas advanced to the final of the 800 with sixth-fastest prelim time at 1:57.66.
•Jonathan Burton had the third-fastest 400-meter hurdle prelim time at 53.68 and moved on to Saturday’s final.
