ESCONDIDO – On Friday, November 5th Councilmember Joe Garcia joined community leaders in front of Escondido City Hall to rally in support of traffic safety. This rally took place following the tragic death of a woman who was walking with a child near Washington Park. On Tuesday, October 12th, the woman and child were hit after a car ran a red light at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Rose Street, killing the woman and leaving the child injured.

Councilmember Garcia, who organized the rally, was joined by Escondido Police Chief Ed Varso, Councilmember Tina Inscoe, Councilmember Consuelo Martinez, Pastor Agner Medrano from Victory Outreach Church, and Imam Yusef Miller from the Islamic Center of Escondido. The event was also sponsored by the Greater Escondido Chamber of Commerce, Cox Communication, Escondido Police Athletic League, Victory Outreach Church, and Escondido COMPACT.

“Something needs to change,” Councilmember Garcia said. “The city must take action now to prevent tragic accidents like this from happening again.”

Councilmember Garcia has met with the City Manager to initiate the process of determining what can be done to promote traffic safety around District 3 and other areas of the city. The City Council will discuss this issue at their November 17th meeting. The public is invited to attend and share their experience with traffic safety.

Councilmember Garcia represents District 3 in the City of Escondido. As a community pastor and police chaplain, Garcia is dedicated to serving his community and promoting public safety.
