COVID-19 Message from Oceanside Mayor

San Diego County’s COVID numbers are on the rise, as are the country’s. As a result, the County has dropped into the most restrictive Purple Tier. San Diego County will remain Purple at least an extra three weeks.

Wholesale closures of business sectors is not warranted. Nonetheless, we have an obligation to abide by the Governor’s edicts and directives. Through the ever changing regulations, we recognize Oceanside businesses and employees have truly suffered, and our hearts are with you. After closing and then opening with restrictions, many of you pivoted to initiate safety measures to make your workplaces safer, only to have to endure another closure again this weekend.

I don’t believe this is a time to be punitive towards businesses. As I have from the beginning of the pandemic, I will continue to lobby the state to reduce stringent regulatory measures in the state’s Tier system.

I invite our local businesses to learn about the resources available to help keep you afloat during this exhaustingly long year of business restrictions. Business Resources

Gratefully, this latest Tier change does not mean that personal care services like barber shops and nail salons have to close or move outside again. But indoor operations at restaurants, gyms, movie theatres and museums are impacted. Let us know how we can assist you amid these shifting rules.

Residents, if you are able, please — order takeout. Buy gift certificates. Support arts organizations, most of which remain closed. Buy what you need at a small local business. Small gestures can make a big difference, and one constructive act has the potential to help many others.

For Oceanside citizens facing another round of potential layoffs, furloughs, or still out of work, please learn about the many resources available that can help with things like food or emergency assistance. Community Resources

We’re approaching the home stretch, in what has been a scary, confusing year. With treatments and vaccines in our sights, it’s up to us to stay the course. We are all travelling through this pandemic together, and the City is here to help you as we work together to put this behind us.

When we unite, our ability to overcome challenges together is limitless. Don’t lose hope! Remember, Oceanside—-this isn’t forever.
