SAN MARCOS, Calif. – As Cal State San Marcos Athletics navigates uncharted waters heading into the 2020-21 academic year, the department announced the creation of the Care/Resource/Support Team on Monday August 3rd.

The Care/Resource/Support (CRS) Team will be committed to the health, safety, academic pursuits and personal development of all CSUSM student-athletes. Its purpose is to assist CSUSM head coaches to ensure their respective student-athletes are continuing to receive the proper care, support and resources needed to meet their academic, athletic and personal goals at CSUSM.

“The CRS Team’s focus of health, safety, mental well-being, academic achievement, personal development, increased communication, general assistance and care of all CSUSM student-athletes is paramount heading into the new academic year,” CSUSM Director of Athletics Jennifer Milo said.

“The student-athlete experience is our number one priority, and we are not going to let COVID interrupt that.”

With practice and competition having been postponed and the department operating in a virtual world, CSUSM Athletics is seeking to regain connection with its student-athletes. The number one priority is making sure that all student-athletes feel supported and know that they have help and assistance when they need it. They are not alone during these uncertain times, and there is a team of people waiting to assist them at a moment’s notice.

Qualified and experienced Department of Athletics support staff members and administrators will assume the roles of CRS Team representatives. They will continue to perform their normal job duties for the department while also taking on the following tasks:
Weekly meetings with CSUSM head coaches.
Assisting the head coach with weekly team meetings.
Meeting individually with student-athletes at the head coach’s discretion.
Assisting student-athletes with any needed campus resources.
Assisting with increased communication to student-athletes regarding campus/department decisions.
Other items requiring assistance as needed.
“In these difficult and confusing times, it is refreshing to know that we as student-athletes have representation and help that we can always go to,” CSUSM baseball student-athlete and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President Zach Schuberg said. “The CRS Team will help run things smoothly within athletics, and I’m excited to see its benefits.”
